What print services does LPi offer?
- 5th Color Printing: Our printers feature a versatile 5th color station, allowing us to use specialty colors like Silver, Gold, White, Clear, Neon Pink, Neon Yellow, and Infrared. This flexibility offers creative color options that make your projects stand out.
- Banner Sheet Printing: Our machines can print on extended sheets (up to 13” x 27.5”), whereas most standard printers handle up to 13” x 19”. Some inkjet machines can handle even larger sheets and often outperform offset printing in speed and efficiency.
- Thicker Substrates: With each new generation of digital printing technology, machines become faster and can print on thicker substrates. Currently, our machines can handle up to 24pt thickness.
What is digital printing, and how does it differ from offset printing?
- Digital Printing: Digital printing is essentially on-demand printing. Once a file is sent to print, a finished product is produced almost immediately. This doesn’t mean the first output is perfect; initial prints may require minor adjustments to meet color standards.
- Offset Printing: Offset uses inks, often custom-mixed (like Pantone colors), and the machine must be "brought up to color," meaning several sheets are run to reach the desired color accuracy. Offset also requires larger initial setups and is best for high-quantity orders.
- Efficiency and Cost: Digital printing is generally more cost-effective for smaller runs, though high-speed inkjet systems can handle larger volumes. Digital setups require fewer sheets for color calibration, saving time and materials.
What are the benefits of 5th color printing?
- The 5th color station allows us to print vibrant neons, metallics, and other specialty colors, opening new creative possibilities that were previously difficult to achieve. Combined with new materials, the potential for eye-catching products is limitless.
What is a 5th color clear or clear toner, and how does it compare to spot varnish?
- A 5th color clear or clear toner is a transparent toner applied during the digital printing process to create subtle visual enhancements. It can add a glossy effect to specific areas of a design, similar to a spot varnish, but is applied digitally rather than as a separate finishing step. Clear toner can be used for soft watermarks, slight texture enhancements, or to highlight certain design elements. Since it is printed like ink or toner, it allows for precise application without the need for additional setup, making it a cost-effective option for short-run or variable data printing.
- Some places offer a spot varnish, which is a liquid coating applied after printing to add a high-gloss, matte, or raised effect to specific areas. Unlike clear toner, spot varnish is typically applied in an offset or screen-printing process, often requiring a separate plate or stencil. It can create more dramatic, textured, or highly reflective finishes than clear toner. However, because it is a separate process, it generally comes with higher costs and longer production times, making it better suited for premium packaging, high-end marketing materials, or large print runs.
What is Security Printing with Infrared or Specialty Toners
- The Ricoh 7500's infrared toner is a specialty toner that appears nearly invisible under normal lighting but becomes visible under a blacklight or infrared light source. This makes it useful for simple authentication features on event tickets, packaging, and other printed materials where an extra verification step is needed.
- Unlike high-security printing methods such as holograms, microtext, or UV-reactive inks used in currency and official documents, infrared toner is an accessible and easy-to-implement option for adding a subtle authentication layer. While it does not prevent counterfeiting on its own, it provides an additional way to verify printed materials without affecting the overall design.
How does LPi handle color management to ensure color accuracy?
- Our digital machines are equipped with color management and spot color-matching software, which, paired with regular maintenance and calibration, keeps colors within acceptable tolerances.
- Color Tolerance: Have you noticed how some paper reams are labeled "bright white" or "98% white"? Paper whiteness can influence color output. If your previous print job used a different paper, colors may vary slightly. Calibration helps ensure accuracy, though minor variations can still occur.
What materials can you print on?
- Primary Materials: We primarily print on paper and synthetic materials in-house.

How long does a typical print job take?

How can I prepare my files for print?
